SARANGBANG

A room, a few people, and Korean music heard close up.

The sarangbang was the room in a Korean house where people gathered to talk, to drink tea, and to play music for one another. It was never a stage. It was a room, and everyone in it was close enough to hear breath.

This series brings that back. Korean traditional music played without amplification, in small spaces, for small numbers of people. Daegeum, danso, and whoever happens to be in the room that evening.

Hosted by Dr Hyelim Kim.
